By understanding how these elements work strengthens your physical and digital integrity.
Jamaica, Queens, New York—1960—Marie Van Brittan Brown, a nurse; developed an innovative security system alongside her husband, Albert Brown due to concerns about safety in their high-crime neighborhood. Their invention was made up of everyday systems still in use today like: peepholes, a sliding camera, and two-way communication. It laid the foundation for modern security systems, it was formally patented August 1, 1966—after a long 3 years the patent was granted for “Closed-Circuit Televisions” (CCTV) technology on December 2, 1969, under U.S. Patent number 3,482,037.
Over a 100 years before Brown's contributions, Augustus Russell Pope, a Unitarian minister from Cambridge, Massachusetts invented a simple and creative battery-powered relay circuit—when a door or windows was opened it would complete the circuit which powered electromagnets that stimulated vibrations to ring a bell; just like a fire alarm does today, or an old-school, school bell—in 1858 Edwin Holmes successfully commercialized the device, today it’s everywhere and sometimes never really appreciated.

Promote zero-bullshit culture; build a team of stars, not a team of star individuals
Two values this company honors as a leader in the defense market—but bending the rules in a competition creates a sharp point of contention; currently preparing for an IPO as it continues to push boundaries in the security market, backed by significant investments and a strong focus on research and development. For instance, if someone was to nudge your camera—aim into another direction before being detected—the accelerometer inside of it would trigger and alarm for tampering; uniformed officials, crooks and harmless kids all do this to avoid being recorded, this would notify you the moment it was to happen. Another thing out of the millions things I love is that if you have old wired systems you can connect to them and integrate the old with the new, they have options for all instances.
The initial goal at that time was to carve out a niche in producing medium-priced systems, positioned between inexpensive Chinese brands and pricier Western ones.
Significant worldwide recognition in terms of certifications and compliance
Twenty one of their products have received UL certification this certification encompasses a range of devices, including hubs, motion detectors, opening detectors, keypads, sirens, and integration modules, ensuring they meet stringent safety and performance standards such as UL 1023, UL 2610, ULC S304, UL 985, EN 50131, ISO 9001, ULC 545, including the Red Dot Award for product design and the Good Design Award, which validates the innovative design and functionality and of course it has an IP ratings it even has an IK08 spec—if you happen to know what that is.
Research and development are the engines that drive us forward. We don't rest on our laurels; instead, we constantly reinvent everything we touch.

At its core, the protocol enables robust two-way communication between security hubs and peripheral devices, supporting up to 200 interconnected sensors and control units with remarkable precision and reliability.
The Jeweller radio protocol, developed by Ajax Systems, represents a sophisticated communication technology specifically engineered for security systems. At its core, the protocol enables robust two-way communication between security hubs and peripheral devices, supporting up to 200 interconnected sensors and control units with remarkable precision and reliability. Devices communicate only during scheduled intervals using Time-Division Multiplexing (TDMA), remaining inactive otherwise to conserve energy.
Is Ajax Jeweller wireless comms really safe?
Security and reliability are paramount in the Jeweller protocol's design. The system employs advanced encryption techniques, including block cipher encryption and dynamic frequency hopping, which effectively prevent signal interception or jamming. Each device undergoes authentication during every communication session, ensuring that no unauthorized devices can integrate into the system. Even in cases of severe jamming, the system remains uncompromised and promptly alerts users and monitoring centers. The vhfBridge is an integral component for extending the capabilities of Ajax systems. Designed to connect Ajax hubs to third-party VHF transmitters via the Jeweller protocol, it enables long-range alarm and event transmission over VHF radio waves.
The vhfBridge operates by receiving alarm signals from the Ajax hub and transmitting them to a connected VHF transmitter through wired connections. The VHF transmitter then relays these signals over long distances, making it ideal for remote areas with unreliable internet connectivity. This module can function as either a primary or backup communication channel, complementing other protocols like SIA or Contact ID. It supports both bistable and pulse signal transmission depending on configuration and is compatible with any VHF transmitter that has relay inputs, such as the TR-41 from Puper or Hawk VHF Alarm Transmitter from FSK Electronics. With a range of up to 1,800 meters between the vhfBridge and the hub in open environments, it ensures secure two-way encrypted communication.
What if my business or home doesn’t do wireless security measures?
Ajax has a solution for those who prefer wired systems: the Superior MultiTransmitter IO (4X4) Fibra, a wired integration module designed in-house. This module features four inputs and four outputs, enabling seamless integration of third-party wired devices such as motion detectors, glass break sensors, and electronic locks. It supports various connection types (NC, NO, EOL, 2EOL, 3EOL) and provides power (11.6–12.4 V⎓, up to 500 mA) to connected devices.
Fibra is Ajax's proprietary wired communication protocol that connects wired devices (e.g., detectors, keypads) to the hub. Operating over a four-core cable, Fibra supports topologies like Ring and Beam for robust and efficient setups. It ensures reliable communication over long distances while maintaining high levels of security through encryption and device authentication.

The brain behind the story?
Aleksandr Konotopskyi, founder of Ajax Systems, conceived the idea for a competitive security solution at the age of 21 while managing Secur, a major distributor of security products in Ukraine. Frustrated by the low quality of many imported devices, he recognized an opportunity to create superior products that could compete globally. This vision led to the establishment of Ajax Systems, which has since evolved into Europe's largest developer and manufacturer of smart security systems. Despite facing significant challenges during the full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022, Konotopskyi's leadership enabled the company to relocate production facilities swiftly and launch new operations in Turkey. Today, Ajax protects over 2.5 million users worldwide and is recognized for its innovative approach and commitment to quality in the security market.
Summary
Ajax's security system employs proprietary radio protocols, Jeweller and Wings, allowing for a robust operational range of up to 2000 meters without obstacles. The devices (with batteries) are designed for long battery life (4-7 years) and feature two-way communication for real-time status updates. The system is resistant to viruses and signal jamming, with automatic switching to backup communication channels in case of interference.
Is Ajax going to keep you covered 100%, no, you need guards, perimeters, and so on, even castles can get knocked down. But Ajax is a superb option to invest in.
